TPE Audit Activity Level HIGH – Strategic Response Required
Webinar • October 7, 2026 • 10:00 am —11:30 am CST
The ongoing and increasing levels of scrutiny in the industry are contributing to increased audit activity that is impacting home health and hospice providers across the state. Targeted Probe and Education (TPE) audits are ongoing in Missouri being conducted by CGS the current J15 HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor.
It is imperative that providers understand these audits, how to know if they are selected for audit and know what steps to take while under the audit.
TPE Audits require that the provider’s claim denial rate remain under the CGS defined claim denial threshold in order to prevent moving on to the next round audit. Providers may experience up to three rounds of TPE audits which if failed, will result in reporting and further action by CMS which could include a variety of actions including removal of billing privileges.
Agencies must take an intentional and strategic approach to the audits so that they position themselves to successfully navigate the round and reduce the risks for any avoidable denials.
